Installation
hillcraft has extensive experience in nation-wide expediting and logistics. Expediters travel throughout the US and Canada to work with local vendors and facilitate complex installations. A team is assigned to a project based on skill and experience. Project managers facilitate shop drawings, material requisition, field dimensions, change orders production schedules and delivery coordination.
hillcraft's installers are required to have broad experience in commercial and residential installation, including blueprint reading, appliance knowledge, solid surface experience, finishing touch-up, and general carpentry skills. Diplomacy is a necessary skill at times, as they are frequently expected to work under tight construction deadlines while flooring and mechanical trades-people are competing for access to the same space. It is not uncommon to have flooring contractors laying carpet under their feet, while electricians install fixtures over their heads and paperhangers are hanging wallpaper on the same wall that the cabinets are being scribed to.
Each jobsite has it's own unique challenges. The installers are accustomed to carrying cabinets through 6" of mud, or across gangplanks to get into buildings that were open to the elements just days before. Open elevator shafts and stairwells require the utmost attention to job-site safety. Overhead mechanical work mandates hardhats and alertness to falling tools. Historic buildings may have 18" thick stone walls and sagging floors. Distant projects require travel and overnight stays in motels. Occupied remodel projects may require work to be done at night or on weekends. Despite all the challenges and deadlines, it is a rewarding job, with each day bringing new opportunities for creative problem solving.
